Four ways to crash
Snake Game Modes
The core is still snake: eat, grow, don’t hit a wall. Modes remix the board so a second run is not a copy of the first. Pick one in the settings, then hit Play — it locks in for that run.
Empty board, rising speed
Classic
The original loop. No extra walls, no gates — just you, the food, and a tail that eventually fills the room. Speed still ramps as you grow, so a sleepy opening becomes a tight finish. Best for warming up, hunting a clean personal best, or learning combos without a maze in the way.
- Loop the edges early, then cut inside when the middle is still open.
- Golden apples are worth the detour here because routes stay simple.
- If wrap-around walls are on, treat the board like a torus — your tail can still catch you from the opposite side.
Walls that close in
Obstacles
Blocks start appearing as you grow. Yesterday’s safe line gets bricked off. You still eat to score, but the skill is reading which corridors will still exist in ten bites. Crashing into a new wall ends the run the same as hitting your tail.
- Leave yourself two exits before you commit to a golden apple.
- Shrink apples matter more here — a shorter tail can slip a shrinking gap.
- Don’t hug a wall that might spawn the next obstacle on your nose.
Two gates, one snake
Portals
A pair of portals sits on the board. Slip into one and you pop out the other, heading the same way you entered. That is an escape hatch, a shortcut, and a way to crash into your own tail from an angle you forgot about.
- Glance at the exit portal before you enter — especially if your tail is parked on the other side.
- Use a portal to skip a long wrap when a golden apple is about to vanish.
- A darting apple that runs through a gate is still catchable if you take the other door.
One maze per local date
Daily
Each local calendar day gets a seeded maze of walls and portals. Everyone playing that date sees the same layout, so a shared score actually means something. Speed is locked to Classic and wrap-around is off so the puzzle stays fair. Come back tomorrow for a new board.
- Scout the maze on a throwaway run before you hunt a serious score.
- Combos still work — the maze just decides which loops are legal.
- Your daily best is stored on this device. Clearing site data resets it.
How to switch modes
On the play page, choose Classic, Obstacles, Portals, or Daily in the game mode control before you start. Mode and speed lock once a run begins so a mid-game swap cannot bail you out of a bad board.
Daily always uses Classic speed. If you want Chill or Insane, pick another mode. Need the key bindings first? See how to play.
